home    deutsch    finish         Robert Schinköthe, "pope of Leubingen", passionate beer expert and electric guitarist in EST, loves sausages, but eats no meat, prefers the blues for his listening pleasure and actively promotes the linguistic heritage of his homeland.
Born to Be Wild. Grew up with hard rock and blues in the idyllic town of Leubingen on the Unstrut River, which, along with his folk soul, is responsible for his dialect and his love of nature, Robert taught himself guitar at the age of six and since then, as a sworn autodidact, preserves for his autonomy. Being so, he is particularly proud of the fact that he has never had a teacher, music school, or method book, and never had to look up a chord. According to legend, he even figured out his very first chord on the guitar (E minor) all by himself.
Blood, Sweat, and Beers. Perhaps Robert´s original style, which one can literally identify "from a distance of one-hundred meters against the wind", comes exactly from this good teaching method. However, the fact is that the typical "EST sound", a mixture of blues, rock´n´roll, Zydeco and various other influences, would never have come to be without him.   The band has given Robert the responsibility of acting as spiritual father and president of the EST, a task that he superbly manages with competence, nonchalance, and vision. He collects cars, is engaged in local politics, and is convincing as a passionate amateur cook: Where else can one get tomato sauce containing as much sugar as a Coca Cola!     Robert Schinköthe lives in Erfurt and Leubingen.
